Carbon Reduction through Resilience in Masonry Construction

  • Explain the concept of resilient building design.
  • Describe the inherent attributes and advantages of concrete masonry construction for resilient design.
  • Identify steps that can be taken to reduce GWP (Global Warming Potential) of concrete masonry wall systems.
  • Comprehend the principles of carbon sequestration.

SPEAKER INFORMATION:

ADAM HUTCHINSON, P.E.

Executive Director for the

Northwest Concrete Masonry Association

As a licensed PE in the state of Washington since 2020, he has extensive knowledge of masonry. Adam is a graduate of Gonzaga University and has over 15 years of experience working with engineers, architects, and contractors. He previously worked as an engineer at Integrus Architecture for nearly four years, preceded by an additional eight years as a structural engineering technician.

Adam is actively involved with the Concrete Masonry and Hardscapes Association. He serves as secretary on the Concrete Masonry Checkoff Region 5 Regional Advisory Committee (RAC 5). Adam is also a voting member of The Masonry Society’s Construction Requirements Committee, the Structural Members Committee, the Reinforcements and Connectors Committee, and the Technology Committee. He additionally serves as Technical Director for the Masonry Institute of Washington and Masonry Institute of Oregon. Adam continues to educate future engineers as an adjunct professor at Portland State University and Gonzaga University with a focus on structural masonry design.
